Calling Volunteers for the 2019 Point-In-Time Count

The Riverside County Department of Public Social Services (DPSS) is looking for volunteers for the Riverside County’s 2019 Point-In-Time (PIT) Count scheduled on Tuesday, January 29, 2019 (5:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.).

The PIT Count is an annual count and survey of our county’s homeless population. This count is used by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the State of California not only as a measure of our homeless population, but also as a basis to determine many of the resources and funding our county receives to address homelessness in Riverside County.

To become a volunteer, please complete the following two steps:

1)  complete volunteer registration at

2)  attend a mandatory 2-hour training session

Volunteer Information

  • Volunteer Time Slots: Our Shelter Guests leave the shelters by 8 a.m. and return by 4 p.m. seven days a week. Regular volunteer times are from 4 p.m.- 8 p.m. seven days a week.  Other volunteer times can be scheduled at the discretion of the Shelter Director, Assistant Shelter Directors, Program Directors, and Administration.
  • Background ChecksOur organization conducts background checks on all individuals interested in volunteering with us.  Therefore, please submit your Volunteer Application at least two weeks in advance if you have special circumstances because we may not accommodate last minute requests.
  • Application Process: Once your application has been submitted, it will take at least one week to process and respond to your inquiry.

  • Elementary, Middle, and High School Students: If you are under 18-years old, you must be accompanied by an adult when you volunteer.  Your parent/guardian must submit a Volunteer Application prior to your service.  If you have to complete a community service project, which has specific requirements, please send your project information to Please do not submit any Volunteer Applications until you have received a response about your project inquiry.
